Explanation On Classification of Scheduled Waste
EXPLANATION ON CLASSIFICATION OF WASTE LISTED UNDER
ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY (SCHEDULED WASTES) REGULATIONS 2005
1. Scheduled waste is defined as any waste falling within the categories of waste listed in the First Schedule of the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005.
2. There are 77 categories of scheduled wastes listed under the First Schedule of the Regulations.
3. The Department of Environment has reviewed the types of scheduled wastes listed under several categories of scheduled wastes and has classified several type of these
wastes as non-scheduled waste based on the following consideration:

· The waste has been widely used as raw material to produce product that is safe to be used;
· The waste does not exhibit significant toxic characteristics;
· The waste is not classify as hazardous wastes at international level.
Other type of sludges that are not regulated under the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005 are as follows: -
1. Sludge from sewage treatment plants. Disposal of such sludge shall require a written permission from Department of Environment State Office as stipulated under Regulation 15 of the Environmental Quality (Sewage) Regulations 2009.
2. Sludge from crude palm oil mills. Disposal of such sludge shall require a written permission from Department of Environment State Office as stipulated under Environmental Quality (Prescribed Premises) (Crude Palm Oil) Regulations 1977.
3. Sludge from the raw natural rubber plant. Disposal of such sludge shall require a written permission from Department of Environment State Office as stipulated under Environmental Quality (Prescribed Premises) (Raw Natural Rubber) Regulations 1977.
